Dear Parents/Carers,
Our Road Safety lessons have commenced in classes using our online Road Safety Calendar provided by the Department.
In the context of St Oliver's, please remember to park appropriately during drop off and pick up times.
No one should be parking inside the yellow box at the school gate - this causes an obstruction if we have various visitors needing access such as maintenance or the library van.

Discussion at home:
"Ask the children to look at the picture. Do you have these yellow lines outside the entrance/exit
of your school? The yellow writing painted on the road says “School – Keep – Clear” and has
zig-zag yellow lines at each end. Why do the children think these lines are there to stop people
parking near the entrance/exit of the school? The white car in the picture has parked on the
yellow zig-zag markings. People crossing the road may have to step onto the road to see clearly
in that direction. Other road users passing by on the road may not be able to see the people
trying to cross behind the parked car. Staying off the zig-zags means pedestrians can see clearly
from the safety of the footpath before crossing the road. Travelling to and from school should be
safe and parking away from the entrance can really help."
